Sip, swirl, and let it sparkle.
Two cocktails, clinking in the glow of summer — olives, cherries, lemon slices, and colours that feel like golden hour in a glass.

In this vibrant acrylic session, you’ll paint a playful, elegant scene full of juicy tones and light-filled reflections. Think loose, expressive brushstrokes, fresh colour combinations, and that glossy shimmer of glass catching the light.
We’ll guide you into creating those soft reflections and transparent layers that make the glasses feel alive — all while keeping the process relaxed, intuitive, and a little bit fancy.
Bright, summery, and effortlessly chic — this one’s made for good vibes and even better colours. 🍸

Lilacs? Check.
Jar? Check.
Texture? Absolutely.

In this relaxed painting session, we’re keeping things simple and slightly overbuilt. You’ll paint a bunch of lilacs sitting politely in a jar — just as expected — using expressive brushstrokes and deliciously textured paint. A masterclass on how to mix fifty shades of purple ;)

The style is loose, painterly, and tactile, with plenty of room to enjoy the process. No perfection required, just paint doing what paint does best.

Perfect for beginners and seasoned painters alike who enjoy flowers, surface, and a calm, creative session with a subtle sense of humor.

Splash. Drip. Splatter. Total Freedom.
Looking for a creative experience that’s energetic, expressive and completely different from traditional painting?

Our Action Painting Workshop combines the excitement of throwing, dripping and splashing paint with the artistic principles behind creating a powerful abstract artwork.

After a short introduction, your instructor will guide the group through a series of Action Painting techniques while explaining how abstract paintings are built through composition, layering, colour relationships and texture. Rather than recreating a predefined motif, you’ll gradually develop your own artwork over approximately two hours, allowing every splash, brushstroke and creative decision to influence what comes next.

Action Painting is an intuitive journey. Every mark on the canvas becomes the starting point for the next, creating a continuous process of acting, observing and reacting. Along the way, you’ll experiment with a wide variety of paints, tools and creative techniques while your instructor shares demonstrations, artistic guidance and individual feedback whenever you need it.

No two paintings will ever look alike. While everyone explores the same techniques together, each participant follows their own creative path, discovering their own balance between spontaneity and intention.

Whether you’re looking to switch off after a busy week, reconnect with your creativity or simply experience painting in a completely different way, Action Painting offers the freedom to experiment while giving you the artistic guidance to turn expressive marks into a finished abstract composition.

You’ll leave not only with a unique artwork, but with a deeper understanding of how abstract paintings evolve—and the confidence to trust your own creative instincts.

Bold, textured, and glowing with autumn fire.
Against a deep, moody blue background rises a majestic tree — bursting with vibrant oranges, golden yellows, and those last glowing leaves that feel like they’re holding onto summer just a little longer.

In this painting session, we’re putting the brushes aside (well, mostly) and diving into palette knife magic. You’ll learn how to sculpt your tree with thick, expressive layers of paint — building real, tangible texture that gives your artwork a beautiful three-dimensional feel. Think less flat painting, more “I kind of want to touch it.”

We’ll explore how to mix a range of warm autumn hues — from fiery orange to soft golden tones — and how to set them against that deep blue for maximum contrast and glow. It’s all about letting colours play, collide, and shine.

Billowing light, drifting blue, and clouds that feel almost touchable.
Step into a sky that seems to breathe — soft, rolling blues rising into thick, sculpted clouds that glow with quiet energy. This piece invites you into an atmosphere of movement and softness, where every brushstroke feels like a shift in the wind.

Along the way, you’ll also learn hands-on techniques that bring the scene to life: how to confidently handle a palette knife for expressive, textured strokes, how to mix and balance blues to create depth and atmosphere, and how to work with modeling paste to sculpt soft, dimensional clouds that lift off the surface of the canvas. You’ll explore how layering, texture, and colour harmony work together to create a sky that feels both dynamic and calm at the same time.

The Human Figure — One of Art’s Greatest Challenges.

The human body has fascinated artists for centuries. Full of movement, rhythm and expression, figure drawing teaches you not only how to draw people—it teaches you how to truly observe.

In this four-week course, you’ll discover the foundations of figure drawing while developing the confidence to capture posture, movement and anatomy with increasing accuracy. Together we’ll explore proportions, gesture, balance, light and structure, learning how simple shapes gradually evolve into convincing human figures.

Throughout the course, you’ll experiment with graphite, charcoal and other traditional drawing materials while practising gesture drawing, anatomical studies and longer observational drawings. Every class combines demonstrations, practical exercises and plenty of individual drawing time with personal guidance from your instructor.

The course culminates in a live model session, giving you the opportunity to apply everything you’ve learned while experiencing one of the most traditional and rewarding disciplines in classical art.

✏️ What to Expect

  • A structured four-week introduction to figure drawing
  • Weekly guidance from a professional instructor
  • Live demonstrations and practical drawing exercises
  • Gesture drawing, anatomy studies and proportion exercises
  • Plenty of individual drawing time with personal feedback
  • A professional live model during the final session

🧠 What You’ll Learn

  • Understanding body proportions and basic anatomy
  • Capturing movement through gesture drawing
  • Building convincing figures from simple forms
  • Using light, shadow and line to create volume
  • Creating dynamic compositions with the human figure
  • Developing confidence when drawing from observation

🤔 Is This Course Right for Me?

Whether you’re interested in classical drawing, illustration, character design or simply want to improve your observational skills, figure drawing is one of the strongest foundations an artist can build.

Basic drawing experience is recommended, but not required. If you’ve already completed our Introduction to Drawing Course, you’ll find it even easier to focus on anatomy, movement and proportion while further developing your observational skills.

Down to Earth: First Steps in Ceramics

Handbuilding Beginner Course · 4 Weekly Classes

  • Multi-day Course
  • Beginner
  • BASEL · PIE Ceramics Studio
  • 4 × 2.5 hours
from 370.– CHF

Up to 20% discount for Members

A lump of clay. Two hands. Surprisingly many possibilities.

Handbuilding is where some of ceramics’ oldest techniques meet almost unlimited creative freedom. Using pinching, slabs and coils, you can turn clay into everything from cups and plates to vases and sculptural forms.

Throughout the course, you’ll explore the three fundamental handbuilding techniques: pinching, slab building and coiling. Each opens up a different way of working with clay and gives you new possibilities for creating both functional and decorative pieces.

Through a series of guided projects, you’ll gradually build your ceramic toolbox: learning how to construct, join and shape clay, play with textures and surface decoration, and finally glaze your creations.

It’s tactile, playful and wonderfully versatile – with plenty of room to experiment and develop pieces that feel completely your own.

✏️ What to Expect
You’ll explore the fundamental handbuilding techniques through a series of projects:

Pinching – shape your first cup or mug using one of the most intuitive ways of working with clay.

Slab Building – learn to work with rolled clay slabs and transform them into plates and other constructed forms.

Coiling – build upwards with coils of clay to create a vase or taller vessel.

Glazing & Finishing – explore colour and surface to give your handmade pieces their final character.

Throughout the course, you’ll receive demonstrations, individual guidance and plenty of freedom to interpret each project in your own way.

🧠 What You’ll Learn

  • The fundamentals of pinch pottery
  • How to construct forms using clay slabs
  • How to build larger and taller pieces using coils
  • How to join clay securely and create stable forms
  • How to control shape, thickness and structure
  • Surface decoration using textures, patterns and carving
  • The basics of glazing and finishing
  • How to combine these techniques when developing your own projects

🤔 Is This the Right Course for Me?
This course is a great fit if you enjoy making things with your hands, experimenting with form and texture, and having creative freedom within a guided learning process.

You’ll probably appreciate it most if you’re curious about how objects are constructed and enjoy the process of slowly building something from scratch. Handbuilding allows for precision, but it also celebrates irregularity, character and personal expression – your pieces don’t all need to look identical or perfectly symmetrical.

If you’re mainly interested in learning the technical skill of throwing symmetrical vessels on the pottery wheel, our Wheel Throwing Beginner Course is probably the better choice.

But if you want to build a broad foundation in ceramics, discover several versatile techniques and eventually combine them freely in your own projects, this is a fantastic place to start.
