Spin it. Shape it. Love the wonky bits.
Ever dreamed of making your own cup or bowl on the pottery wheel? This is your moment to try – no pressure, no perfection, just you, the clay, and the magic of Wabi-Sabi.
In this relaxed, beginner-friendly event, you’ll learn the basics of wheel throwing, how to center the clay, and how to pull up your very first form – maybe a cup, maybe something totally unexpected (and that’s perfectly okay).
We’ll embrace wobbles, curves, and character, celebrating the Japanese art of Wabi-Sabi – finding beauty in imperfection and joy in the process, not just the result.
No experience? No problem. You’ll leave with a piece that’s 100% yours – shaped by your hands and full of personality.

Michelangelo in Pajamas
Kids & Parents Guided Ceramics Workshop
- Workshop
- Beginner
- ZÜRICH · PIE Ceramics Studio
- 2 hours
Up to 20% discount for Members
Saturday morning sculpting for little hands and big imaginations.
Clay is squishy, messy, wonderfully forgiving – and capable of becoming pretty much anything.
At Michelangelo in Pajamas, kids explore the world of ceramics through playful, guided projects designed to get their hands moving and their imaginations going. One week it might be a funky mug, another a funny creature, a colourful bowl or something completely unexpected.
Our instructors introduce the project and techniques step by step, but this isn’t about making ten identical little masterpieces. Kids are encouraged to experiment, add their own ideas and turn the project into something unmistakably theirs.
Parents and accompanying adults are very welcome to join the fun too – create something together, work side by side, or let your little Michelangelo take over the creative part.
PJs optional. Clay under the fingernails? Pretty much guaranteed.

Shape it. Press it. Pattern it. Fall in love with the feel of clay.
In this tactile ceramics workshop, it’s all about the surface — how it feels, how it catches the light, how it tells a story. You’ll hand-build a functional or decorative ceramic piece (think bowl, plate, or something sculptural), and explore how to make its surface uniquely yours through texture and pattern.
Under the step-by-step guidance of our instructor, you’ll learn how to form your base shape and then experiment with different techniques: imprinting, carving, stamping, layering — and of course, a bit of freestyle play.
There’ll be inspiration all around, and plenty of space to explore your own style.
🎨 Want to add colour later? You’ll receive a discount to join one of our painting sessions and glaze your own handmade object.
🔥 After the workshop, we’ll glaze and fire your piece. It’ll be ready for pickup in approx. 4 weeks — textured, finished, and totally one of a kind.
Whether you’re new to clay or already hooked, this is a perfect workshop to get your hands moving and your creativity flowing — one surface at a time.
Some of our workshops may be held in English depending on the instructor 😊 We really appreciate your openness and flexibility!

FAQs - the most important facts about our ceramics studio in Zurich
That depends on what you want to do: You need to book for workshops, courses and studio times so that we can prepare your space and materials. We also recommend booking for the Creative Café - especially at weekends. Spontaneous drop-ins are sometimes possible - it's best to enquire shortly beforehand.
This is the right place for you if you have already gained some experience in pottery.
Yes, definitely! If you already have experience, our Studio Classes or the Open Atelier are just right for you. Become a member, use the space for your projects - or get in touch with us directly so that we can find the right programme for you.
In short: better not - the wrong clay or glaze can really pop during firing 💥. But: If you want to use your own materials, talk to our ceramics team. We'll see together whether and how it's possible.
Our ceramics studio has regular opening hours during which you can make pottery at your leisure. Of course you can also register for courses & co.
After pottery or painting, your piece needs time to dry - then it will be fired within 2-4 weeks. If you are not a member, you can then collect your work within 4 weeks. Unfortunately, we cannot keep it any longer after that.
Depending on the temperature and type of firing, a firing process takes around 24 to 36 hours - including heating, holding and cooling. As we collect several pieces before filling the kiln, it can take up to 2-4 weeks for your work to be fully fired.
