Wheel Throwing

From lump to ... something. Let’s spin.

There is hardly anything more satisfying than throwing a lump of clay onto a disc and watching it slowly turn into something. Or not. Either is fine.

Wheel throwing is the most playful activity in the PIE portfolio. Our instructor will show you the basics, the disc and the group will do the rest. When you sit at a potter's wheel for the first time, you never know exactly what will come out. That's what makes it so entertaining: everyone struggles with the same lopsided lump, and everyone laughs at themselves and the others.

For groups of more than 16 people, we combine Wheel Throwing with Ceramic Painting so that everyone has enough time on the wheel and is still busy all evening. At the end, all pieces are glazed and fired by us and are ready for collection after approx. 4 weeks. The most beautiful souvenir you can make from clay.

FAQ

Pottery on the potter's wheel - what to expect

What is wheel throwing?

Wheel throwing is classic pottery on a wheel - you mould clay with your hands and create truly unique pieces.

Do I need experience?

No - our master potters will guide you step by step. The first time on the wheel is always an unforgettable experience!

What happens to my finished piece?

After drying and firing (approx. 3-4 weeks) you can pick up your work or it will be sent to you.

Will I get dirty?

Yes - clay and water are part of it. Please wear old clothes or use our aprons.

How many people can take part at the same time?

The number of wheel throwing discs is limited. For larger groups, we combine Wheel Throwing with Ceramic Painting so that everyone has enough time on the disc and remains creative throughout. Depending on the size of the group, we work in rotations.
