Looking for a creative experience that’s energetic, expressive and completely different from traditional painting?
Our Action Painting Workshop combines the excitement of throwing, dripping and splashing paint with the artistic principles behind creating a powerful abstract artwork.
After a short introduction, your instructor will guide the group through a series of Action Painting techniques while explaining how abstract paintings are built through composition, layering, colour relationships and texture. Rather than recreating a predefined motif, you’ll gradually develop your own artwork over approximately two hours, allowing every splash, brushstroke and creative decision to influence what comes next.
Action Painting is an intuitive journey. Every mark on the canvas becomes the starting point for the next, creating a continuous process of acting, observing and reacting. Along the way, you’ll experiment with a wide variety of paints, tools and creative techniques while your instructor shares demonstrations, artistic guidance and individual feedback whenever you need it.
No two paintings will ever look alike. While everyone explores the same techniques together, each participant follows their own creative path, discovering their own balance between spontaneity and intention.

In this textured painting session, we capture a delicate dandelion — lit in warm amber and golden-orange tones. Light, dreamy, and quietly striking, this piece is all about contrast, texture, and softness meeting structure.
We’ll be working with texture paste to gently build dimension, creating a subtle raised surface that gives the dandelion its almost touchable quality. You’ll learn how to apply and shape the paste in a controlled way — enough to create depth, while keeping that light, fragile feel.
We move into palette knife techniques, exploring how to layer and softly “tap” and pull the paint to form those delicate, radiating shapes. It’s a beautiful balance between precision and letting go — allowing the texture to guide the outcome.

Pollock in Pyjamas is our energetic Saturday Action Painting experience for children aged 6–12 who love to move, experiment and create without limits. Inspired by the freedom of Action Painting, every session encourages young artists to discover colours, movement and their own imagination in a playful, pressure-free environment.
After a short creative introduction, our artist demonstrates exciting Action Painting techniques and shows how different tools can create completely different effects. Then it’s time to let loose. Children splash, drip, flick, roll and layer paint while discovering that every mark on the canvas becomes the starting point for the next creative idea.
There are no predefined motifs and no right or wrong answers—only curiosity, experimentation and colourful surprises.
Towards the end of the workshop, we switch off the lights and turn on the UV lights. Suddenly fluorescent paints begin to glow, colours transform, and the studio becomes an entirely new creative playground. Children can continue painting under blacklight or simply enjoy watching their artwork come to life in a completely different way.
Each participant creates their own artwork on a 30 × 40 cm canvas, with the option to upgrade to a larger canvas during booking.
Parents are welcome to join the experience and paint alongside their children—or simply relax in our lounge while the little artists enjoy their creative adventure.
Every session is different. Every painting is unique. Every child leaves with colourful memories—and usually a very big smile.

The duration depends on your chosen programme. We offer workshops lasting two to three hours, three- to four-hour workshops, courses lasting several days, flexible painting or free time in the PIE Creative Café Zurich. No, you don't need them with us. Just come along and have a go. But we would of course also be delighted if you could enrich our painting courses with your knowledge.
In our painting courses you will learn things like acrylic painting, oil painting, graffiti spraying or watercolour painting. In the end, you should find your own style in painting. We offer many different courses - whether portrait or abstract, you are sure to find exactly what suits you.
Anyone can take a painting course with us. We have painting courses for beginners as well as for advanced painters - including painting courses for children. You would like to paint in a group - we also offer group events.
We recommend starting with drawing - it is the basis for everything else. After that, acrylic painting is perfect: easy to handle, quick drying and easy to correct. If you just want to try us out, book one of our workshops for a creative experience with no prior knowledge.
Of course you can take the paintings home with you. Your masterpiece is all yours.
