Description

Every great artist starts by learning to see.

Drawing is much more than putting pencil to paper. It’s the foundation of almost every visual art form—the skill that teaches you to observe, understand and interpret the world around you.

In this six-week foundation course, you’ll develop the most important artistic ability of all: seeing like an artist. Together we’ll explore observation, proportion, perspective, light, shadow, composition and form while learning how to transform the three-dimensional world around us into convincing drawings.

Every week introduces new concepts through demonstrations, structured exercises and practical projects that gradually build your confidence. Rather than simply learning how to copy what you see, you’ll discover why objects look the way they do—and how artists simplify, analyse and reconstruct them on paper.

Drawing is often described as the language of visual art. Whether you dream of becoming a painter, illustrator, designer, sculptor or simply want to draw with confidence, the skills you develop here will support everything you create afterwards.

If you’ve ever thought “I can’t draw,” this course is here to change your mind. With the right guidance and plenty of practice, you’ll soon discover that drawing isn’t a talent reserved for a few—it’s a skill that anyone can learn.

✏️ What to Expect

  • A comprehensive six-week introduction to drawing
  • Weekly guidance from a professional artist
  • Live demonstrations introducing essential drawing techniques
  • Structured exercises that gradually build your observation and drawing skills
  • Plenty of individual drawing time with personal feedback
  • A relaxed and encouraging studio environment where curiosity and experimentation are always welcome

🧠 What You’ll Learn

  • How to observe like an artist
  • Shape, proportion and perspective
  • Light, shadow and creating three-dimensional form
  • Line quality, values and texture
  • Composition and visual storytelling
  • The universal drawing principles that support every artistic medium

🤔 Is This Course Right for Me?
Absolutely.
Whether you’ve never held a pencil with artistic intention before or you’d like to build a stronger creative foundation before exploring painting, illustration or other artistic disciplines, this course is the ideal place to begin.
The skills you’ll develop here won’t just improve your drawings—they’ll change the way you observe the world and support every creative step that follows.

More Infos

❓ Should I start with Drawing or Painting?

The short answer: either.

Think of it like learning music. You don’t need to read sheet music before you can play your first song—but understanding it will help you grow much faster over time.

Painting works in a similar way. You can absolutely begin with our Introduction to Painting course and start creating beautiful artworks from day one. However, learning to draw teaches you how to truly observe shapes, proportions, light and perspective—the foundations that make painting, illustration and almost every other visual art form easier.

If your main goal is simply to enjoy painting, feel free to start there. If you’d like to build the strongest possible artistic foundation, we recommend beginning with Introduction to Drawing and continuing with Introduction to Painting afterwards.

There isn’t a wrong choice—only different paths into creativity.

🎨 Do I need any previous experience?

No.

This course is specifically designed for complete beginners and anyone looking to build a solid artistic foundation.

Whether you’ve never drawn before or simply want to replace guesswork with genuine understanding, your instructor will guide you step by step through the fundamental principles of drawing.

🖌️ Do I need to bring my own materials?

No. We provide all the materials and equipment you’ll need throughout the course.

If you already own high-quality art supplies or would simply like to learn using your own brushes, paints or other materials, you’re very welcome to bring them along. Otherwise, just turn up and we’ll take care of the rest.

🖼️ Do I take my artwork home after each class?

To make transport easier, we’ll keep all of your artworks and practice pieces safely stored in your personal folder throughout the course.

At the end of the final class, you’ll receive everything you’ve created during the course, including your finished projects and all your practice work.

🗓️ I can only see the first class date. When do the other classes take place?

The date shown during booking is the first class of your course.

All remaining classes take place on the same weekday, at the same time, over the following consecutive weeks, and normally at the same location.

Should there ever be an exceptional change of location, everyone in the course will be informed well in advance.

🌴 What if one of the classes falls on a public holiday?

Our courses are generally scheduled on consecutive weeks, including public holidays. We find this creates the best learning experience and helps everyone maintain momentum.

Unless stated otherwise in the course description, classes will take place as scheduled, even if one of the dates falls on a national or public holiday.

🔄 What happens if I miss a class?

Don’t worry.

If the same course is offered again and there are free places available, you’re welcome to join the missed class. Simply let us know by email beforehand.

In many cases, an even better option is to attend one of our Studio Classes. There, you can continue working on the project you missed while receiving support from the tutor. As Studio Classes are designed for independent projects, the tutor will assist you alongside the other participants working on their own artwork.

👩‍🎨 Who teaches the courses?

Our courses are taught by highly trained, active artists who combine their own artistic practice with teaching at Paint It Easy.

They’ll guide you through the course, share their knowledge and techniques, and help you develop your artistic skills in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

👥 How many participants are there?

To ensure plenty of individual attention, our courses are limited to a maximum of 12 participants.

✏️ Should I practise between classes?

There is no homework.

That said, as with any creative skill, the more you practise, the faster you’ll improve. If you enjoy creating between classes, we can only encourage it!

☕ Are drinks included?

Our courses are all about developing your creative skills, but we wouldn’t want to lose the Paint It Easy atmosphere.

Tea, coffee and water are always available during your classes, and before the very first session we usually celebrate the start of the course together with a glass of Prosecco—or a non-alcoholic alternative.

Cheers!

🎓 What comes after the course?

The natural next step is joining one of our Studio Classes. Studio Classes are designed for hobby artists who want to continue developing their skills while working on their own projects in a creative community. Your tutor is there to support and guide you whenever needed.

If you’d like to explore a different artistic medium, you’re also welcome to join one of our introductory courses. Or, if you’d like to continue in the same medium, our intermediate and advanced courses are the perfect next step in your creative journey.
