What we will be doing

Intrigued by the elegance of porcelain? This engaging workshop introduces you to the captivating world of slip casting, a technique for creating beautiful and intricate porcelain pieces with relative ease.  No prior experience required.  This one-time session welcomes all creative minds seeking a rewarding introduction to porcelain artistry.

Demystifying Slip Casting:

Slip casting is a versatile technique that utilises liquid clay (slip) poured into plaster moulds to form ceramic objects.  It allows for precise replication and stunning detail, making it ideal for creating intricate pieces in porcelain, a material renowned for its delicate beauty and enduring strength.

Over the course of this 2hour workshop, you will:

  • Uncover the Fundamentals of Slip Casting: Gain a thorough understanding of this exciting technique, from the properties of slip consistency to the role of plaster moulds in the creation process.
  • Plan Your Masterpiece: Using the studios plaster casting mould designs, ensuring success with stunning results. Even though we provide the same mould to all to learn the process the result can still be individualised
  • Master the Pouring Process: Under the guidance of our experienced instructor, you'll learn the proper pouring technique to achieve a flawless cast.
  • Unmoulding and Refinement: Learn the techniques for carefully removing your cast from the mould and refining any edges for a polished look.
  • Optional Glazing Enhancement: glazing will be done after the workshop, with pick-up arrangements for completed pieces.
