Looking for a creative experience that’s energetic, expressive and completely different from traditional painting?
Our Action Painting Workshop combines the excitement of throwing, dripping and splashing paint with the artistic principles behind creating a powerful abstract artwork.
After a short introduction, your instructor will guide the group through a series of Action Painting techniques while explaining how abstract paintings are built through composition, layering, colour relationships and texture. Rather than recreating a predefined motif, you’ll gradually develop your own artwork over approximately two hours, allowing every splash, brushstroke and creative decision to influence what comes next.
Action Painting is an intuitive journey. Every mark on the canvas becomes the starting point for the next, creating a continuous process of acting, observing and reacting. Along the way, you’ll experiment with a wide variety of paints, tools and creative techniques while your instructor shares demonstrations, artistic guidance and individual feedback whenever you need it.
No two paintings will ever look alike. While everyone explores the same techniques together, each participant follows their own creative path, discovering their own balance between spontaneity and intention.

This fun-filled Saturday class is made for kids aged 6–12 and packed with creative projects, giggles, and good vibes. Parents are welcome to join and paint side-by-side with their little artists (yes, matching masterpieces are totally a thing).
Here’s how it flows:

This piece is all about paint handling and contrast: thick, expressive application without using modelling paste. You’ll work with a combination of brush and palette knife, learning how to push, shape, and layer paint to create rich, tactile surfaces and a sense of movement within the subject.
We’ll also explore colour in two directions — how to achieve those clean, vibrant tones in the butterfly and flowers, and how to mix softer, muted shades for the background to create depth and atmosphere. You’ll explore layering, movement, colour relationships, texture and composition as your painting gradually develops over approximately two hours. The duration depends on your chosen programme. We offer workshops lasting two to three hours, three- to four-hour workshops, courses lasting several days, flexible painting or free time in the PIE Creative Café Zurich. No, you don't need them with us. Just come along and have a go. But we would of course also be delighted if you could enrich our painting courses with your knowledge.
In our painting courses you will learn things like acrylic painting, oil painting, graffiti spraying or watercolour painting. In the end, you should find your own style in painting. We offer many different courses - whether portrait or abstract, you are sure to find exactly what suits you.
Anyone can take a painting course with us. We have painting courses for beginners as well as for advanced painters - including painting courses for children. You would like to paint in a group - we also offer group events.
We recommend starting with drawing - it is the basis for everything else. After that, acrylic painting is perfect: easy to handle, quick drying and easy to correct. If you just want to try us out, book one of our workshops for a creative experience with no prior knowledge.
Of course you can take the paintings home with you. Your masterpiece is all yours.
