Introduction to Drawing

Short description of the course

Drawing has less to do with skilful hands and more with how one sees the world. This course aims to teach you a different way to see the world.

Drawing is a basis for everything. This is especially true for painting, where besides the physical mixing of colour and the tactile of the paint, everything else is drawn. The aim of this course is to teach you the fundamentals, which create a solid basis that can be further developed to any directions.

What to expect?

  • Throughout the course you will try different materials to draw with (e.g. pens, pencils, charcoal, pastel etc.)
  • Each class starts with explanation and demonstration by the teacher, which is followed by a drawing exercise.
  • You will be drawing from photo references as well as from life. The theme is going to be still life.

What is included?

  • The workshop is fully guided by Hungarian visual artist Patricia Kaliczka
  • All materials such as papers, different drawing tools, boards, etc.

What you will achieve?

  • You will learn practical fundamentals like correct posture and pencil holding, what drawing tools exists, how to sharpen your pencil with a blade etc.
  • You will learn how to draw and think in three dimension.
  • You will learn the laws of light and what to look for when shading any type of object or surface.
  • You will learn to understand and use value

Is this course right for me?

This course is designed for beginners, but those with prior drawing experience can benefit as well. For them, it can be helpful to organise their existing knowledge and to develop an effective working process.

Good to know

1. We are happy to store your works throughout the course.

2. This course will provide the knowledge of what to pay attention to when drawing, but in order to  fully incorporate this knowledge one needs to practice. Therefore we created a study group, where  two days a week you can continue practicing what you’ve learned on our courses.
