Christopher Columbus apparently translated the papaya’s Carib name ‘ababi’ as ‘fruit of the angels’. Also known as the pawpaw, the papaya is a small, fast-growing tropical tree. It probably originated in Central America, where wild populations of the plant still occur.
We have chosen this picture to evoke tropical vibes while painting it as well as when just looking at it hanging on your wall in the kitchen. The background colour is customisable and the Jackson Pollock - style splashing is optional.
